Hey there,

So currently I work seasonally for Yosemite National Park as a "Parkmedic" (kinda an AEMT with an expanded scope of practice). I've been looking into Paramedic programs. However, I don't really want to give up working my summers for the Park Service. I don't really want to do online Paramedic school. Are there any programs out there that take the summer off? Or one that I could start in the fall, take off the summer and then start again in the fall? I already have a BS, so I'm not super stoked on the a two year associates program with a bunch of prereqs.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Tacoma Community College goes from September to June including clinicals. You would have to move for 9 months. Where do you live? Others might know of places closer to you.

Most college run programs I have seen run 2 semesters if you already have AEMT. sept to dec then Jan to May or June.

There is PERCOM, an online paramedic program. They are based in Texas, so you would have to travel there for skills and some of your clinical rotations. PERCOM has a AEMT to Medic program, which would be slightly shorter than a full paramedic program as well. I went there and really enjoyed my time. Instructors and clinical sites were great, and I honestly feel like PERCOM gave me a better education than a lot of my friends who went through traditional brick and mortar programs. Gene Gandy is their lead instructor, he writes for EMS world occasionally.

Edit: The didactic portion of their program is also self paced, so you could potentially knock it out pretty quickly if you bucked down to get it done. Just know online does not equal easy! Their program is a ton of work.

Final Edit: I think you have my dream job. I am jealous. Would you continue working for NPS as a paramedic?
