Sorry guys and gals, not so sure where to put this. So, I am testing for the Florida paramedic exam. My question is national related though. I want to become Nationally certified as well, but do you have to take a written AND a practical exam to certify or just one ?

You need both the practical and written for NREMT.

Practical is 12 stations, if I remember correctly. Our program director told us but I can't remember, 12 sounds correct though.

n/m...I just realized it was a Paramedic test you were asking about.

OP, if you've taken your MA practical in the last 12 months (and have MA certification), NR is likely to accept that in leiu of a national practical, as long as you started medic school before Jan 1, 2012. Did that make sense?

Wait, I'm confused on how Massachusetts came into the picture

Ignore. I read the OP's username without reading his location. It was the whole "native" thing I missed. Disregard.

Hey, either way it's good information for someone else!

Either way... NREMT says I must take both. My problem arose because the instructors here told me to take the paperwork and submit it to the NREMT, and take ONLY the written, then send in the $$$ to florida. Taking only one test...which is not possible according to the NREMT. They say no matter what I take both.

I've always been under the impression that you need to take both the written and the practical exam to receive an NREMT certification, but I've been wrong before.

I've always been required to take the NREMT since Nevada requires NR for initial certification so I've always gone National to State certified rather than the other way around.

All this NREMT talk made me realize my practical is on Wednesday and my written is on Thursday...oh geeze.
