The Knowledge Network in British Columbia is releasing their new documentary series "Paramedics: Life on the Line" next month featuring the work of my colleagues at BC Ambulance. While I successfully avoided the cameras, a lot of very good friends are featured here.

The full episodes start being released on April 2, however a bunch of "Extras" were put up this week featuring some funny anecdotes and profiles of our crews. Enjoy!

Hopefully there is no geographic restriction on the videos ...

That's pretty cool. I haven't seen any of the episodes, but I do like that they have ambulance people, as well as shots from dispatch and their paramedic specialist (not sure what they do, but they are in a car so I guess they do other stuff besides ambulance work).

The series is the result of public interest following a previous series the network produced called Emergency Room: Life & Death at Vancouver General Hospital. That series was very well done so I'm quite optimistic their paramedic focused documentary will also be good.

Paramedic Specialist ... now there is a big topic with a rather ambiguous name ...
The Specialist program is quite new to us; at this point it has been up and running for about 2 years. The members of the PS group are either Advanced Care or Critical Care Paramedics who operate in single person response units. They respond to ALS coded calls (we have a targeted ALS system) as well as have training in Hazmat, CBRNE, etc, and can function as on scene technical advisors. In the dispatch centre, they can provide clinical support to crews working with our online medical support as well as support dispatch operations by reviewing calls for possible upgrade/downgrade priority from the original MPDS determinant.

Based off of the BBC popularity, they are looking to do a Paramedics show here. The usual appropriate blurring of everything. Live crews in the command center, streetside near the hubs and spokes, and on responding units to capture live everything from the 999 call, ProQA, alert, response, on-scene treatment, transport and handover... Although the concept sounds more like 1000 hours of filming for maybe 2 hours of special.

I can not begin to tell you how dramatically excited I am. I know I've been putting off getting my wisdom teeth extracted, circumcision, lasik, left knee replacement, and am probably overdue to get my squalenes retested back at the VA...
