Paramedic and doctor also denied immunity after death of inmate

A dozen Roane County jailers, a paramedic and a doctor cannot use the shield of immunity to spare them a civil trial over whether they ignored the health woes of an alleged baby killer who later died behind bars, a federal appellate court ruled Friday.

When you're a Paramedic and work at a prison, I guess you can't deny a patient the right to a hospital visit. I'm sure it's far more complex, but I wouldn't want to be in their shoes.

damn....just because they're inmates doesn't mean taht they don't deserve proper care.

I work in a jail, but it's big and includes prison inmates.

No, if anything they get better attention (potentially); since they can't take care of themselves due to security concerns, we have to provide 24/7. However...immunity is not there. Even if the ever-angry families and former inmates (an ever-growing population) couldn't get to you, a Grand Jury is just around the corner.

There is a perpetual dynamic balancing act between expediency (Custody officers) and medical wariness (medical services). Never boring. And every single time I've read about medical care in our jail system it is wrong, and anti-jail, pro-inmates, so read carefully and read between the lines.

OK... sounds like the medic was d**ned if he did, d**ned if he didn't... the supervisor ordered him to violate policy. If he fought the sup, he'd probably have big trouble... so he went with it... and now his a** is in a sling.
