i am currently on a 24 that started at 7pm it is now 1:18 am. so far i have had no calls.... not that i mind. now i cant take a nap and running out of things to do on facebook lol. anyone have anything interesting to chat about? please save my sanity!

Today is my first day of class for EMT-B education, any tips?

I think the first topic is going to be on CPR. Already have a card on that from last year, so if it is, should be interesting to find out how much I remember.

I've done a 24 once with 1 call (nothing spectacular). There's my input.

Im on a 24 right now... started at midnight. No calls yet. Finished a PCR for an IFT from the other evening. Now just watching Law and Order and trying to get rid of this headache. Gonna try to fall asleep.... sorry I'm not much help in saving your sanity. :)

Well I say good Luck on your first day of class usually the first week oh Emt class is CPR .... At least in ny. I have been CPR certified since I was 15 so I have done the class many times and believe me I always find it interesting to what things I remember and how they change the class from year to year. I know in ny they are changing protocols this year from 30:2 to consent compressions abd breaths every five seconds. If there are any questions you have while going threw your class font hesitate to message me I'll be happy to help out the best I can. Good luck again oh yeah best thin you can do for your self is read read READ your book and you'll do just fine.

I hope you are enjoying your 24 and you got rod of that headache.!!!!

Thank you for the tips supergirl. I had heard that as well, that CPR is changing.

72 with 0 calls. My partner and I were about to kill each other at the end of the shift

Wow a 72 with the same partner I probally wOuld have killed them lol as much as I love my partners I don't think I could go that long with no calls lol on my 24 I switch out partners so it's not too bad I kinda feel bad for my partner on my second 12 because I can get pretty cranky with him.

I have worked anywhere from 12-56 hours. Most of the time when I am on a "city" truck, there is not much time to relax. But, the days when I work on one of the 2 trucks in a neighboring county, we can go a day or 2 with no calls. I bought a PS2 to play during times of severe boredom. Since doing that, I have only been able to play it 2 times.

I spend a lot of time reading EMS mags, textbooks, or studying for my medic classes. Protocols are another thing I try to keep reviewing.

A lot depends on your partner as well. Some of my partners are very chatty and the time flies. Others are very anti-social, cranky, and seem to hate the world  , then it isn't much fun on those shifts.

But, if you have access to a computer, there is no end to the things you can find. I finally bought a laptop to take with me to help me keep my sanity. There are some EMS blogs out there that are hilarious and keep me entertained for awhile :P

I can't imagine a 24 hour shift with no calls. I can't remember the last time I had one in the past many years..... close.... like 4-5 calls. But if it happened regularly, and we still train daily like we do now.... I would go crazy. The calls break up the day and daily repetitious training ( I won't lie... after a few hours each day, its break time for a call. )
