Hi,

I just passed my New Jersey EMT-B test and I was wondering how important is the National Registry test? I currently live in New York and I will be applying for reciprocity. I believe it's easier to take it now as opposed to waiting until I need it. Is that correct?

Thanks

First of all Congrats.
Second of all, if you plan on getting a state resciprocity it is easier to do this with NR, if the particular state excepts it. Makes it to where you don't have to challenge the state test. Good luck.

First of all, congrats! Let me make sure I get this right - you live in NY, but are a NJ emt, applying for reciprocity to become a NY-EMT?

If that is the case, I wouldn't really worry about NREMT, especially if you are planning on only practicing in those two states. NY doesn't recognize NREMT at all, and it is of no benefit in NY. I believe the same is true for NJ. Check out the thread I started a few days ago on the same topic: http://www.emtlife.com/showthread.php?t=18757

I am currently in the reverse situation, my permanent address is in NJ, but I go to school in NY. I am an NY emt and I just sent in my reciprocity info to NJ. I am not sure of the reciprocity process for NY, but for NJ I need to sit through the 24 hour Core 13 refresher course, then take a written exam and practical. Having NREMT would not change that.
