I will be done with my EMT-B in May and from what i have seen the best advice i can give is going through the class and through the clinical's is the only way anyone will know if they actually have what it takes or enjoy EMS. From what i have found the clinical's with the ambulance ride along time and the hospital time are what make or break some one and where they truly figure out if they are truly cut out for this profession. Once you get introduced to all the fun, nasty smelling odors and fluids that the human body produces and you get the chance to test your stomach.
But if you think you are interested in EMS then go for it! Whats the worst that can happen, if at least you will pick up some good skills to know and go on to figure out what u do want to do. You can either take a EMT-B class or at least i know in Michigan you can take an MFR first responder, one step under EMT-B. You will never know unless you just try, if you want something bad enough then anything is obtainable.
