It occurred to me the other day that I've never seen a video game about being a firefighter. There are some games about being a police officer, countless games about being a soldier, but as far as I'm aware, firefighting is not represented in the video game universe.
I did once see a firefighting arcade game. It was a big game, patterned off of the type of arcade game where you hold a "gun" that you point and shoot at bad guys on the screen, except the gun was a fire hose nozzle, and you shot it at fire. You could control if it was a narrow stream or wide mist, like in real life.
I think a console-based video game would have to be considerably more in-depth than simply putting out fire after fire. Other features could include driving the engine or truck to the scene, and picking which equipment to use and what strategies to employ, etc. Also you could have the ability to call for additional resources, and you might get points if you do that at the right time or lose points if you do it too soon or too late. You might have the ability to be a front-line firefighter, doing the actual fire attack, or you could choose to the be the scene commander, managine the resources and strategy.
I don't know if any EMS aspects would or should be included in such a game. But I mention this here because I know many of you are either also firefighters or work out of fire stations, and also because, not being a firefighter myself, I'm not a member at any firefighter-oriented message boards.
Have any of you ever seen a firefighting game?
