I am 26yrs old and after dealing with Family problems, new baby, and just getting everything in line I got accepted to a emt school in palm Beach county,FL. My question is my wife and I wanna move back to boston. If I go to school in FL. How hard would it be fore me to get my emt in MA. Also how are there paramedic schools up there? My longtime goal is to become a Firefighter/paramedic. Should i spend the 3k to get my emt b here in fL.. Or wait the year and get it up north? I am 26yrs old and I dont want to be to old for this =(

Thanks

Go to a community college. It would cost half that. The only schools in FL that cost that much for EMT-B, Are the crappy Medic mills.

This school is PBCC. They have 100% pass rate and have a lottery system to get in... Really good school from what i hear.

good question.. Down here in fl Im think there arent alot of schools in palm beach county.. THat arent medimills like you said. THey offer 4 classes every 4mos but they have well over 900 people to apply. Like i said it was a lottery/pt system. I had apllied twice before but did not get in. My mother is a nurse in boston and said they had really good ems school up there. Plus they coast 500-900 dollars. My quest really is it hard to switch states? How could i get some info?? We just really wanna move back home but it will take 6mos-a year to gather up funds. THANKS SOO MUCH FOR REPLYING!! :P

From my understanding, MA doesn't accept National Registry. Could be wrong. You are better off taking the class in MA and getting you medic in MA. You will have an easier time bringing it down to FL if you move back.

Thanks.. I dont think we would come back down to fl... But thanks for the info. I`ll save the 3k to move =). How are the EMS/FF jobs in the north east?

i agree with firecoins, Check out nremt.org and see if MA does the national registry. if not then you take the class and when you have your certificate wait to take your state test in MA. Most everyone here has only paid less than $1000.00 more or less $850 for basic school. Medic school on the other hand cost almost $6000 depending on where you live and the program.

Massachusetts says that: A candidate who is licensed/certified in another state and has passed a state-approved practical examination in order to become licensed/certified is required to successfully complete the Massachusetts EMT-Basic written examination.

Required Documentation:
1. Current state licensure/certification as an EMT-Basic. This license/certification must be current, valid and in good standing when a candidate applies for and takes the examination in Massachusetts.

2. Verification of EMT Status form completed by the state that issued the candidate’s EMT-Basic license/certification. The Verification of EMT Status form must be received at OEMS in the sealed envelope provided with the form.

3. Official documentation of successful completion of an EMT-Basic training course that meets the minimum U.S. Department of Transportation’s EMT-Basic National Standard Curriculum (’94 standards). If the candidate was trained at a Department-accredited training institution, the candidate’s name must appear on
Form 200-3A, Student Eligibility List, as having successfully completed the program.

4. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) successful course completion credentials from the American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider or the American Red Cross (ARC) Professional Rescuer inCardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). A copy (both sides) of the card must be provided.

The MA state basic exam is an insult to my intelligence....if you get your natinal it is a cakewalk....my company runs in MA and RI ... Get your national and test for your MA...everyone up here goes that direction ....also if you work private you'll have to get your
RI license which requires your national anyway...get your national trust me it looks good to an employer that you took the effort

getting your emt up here is not a bad move. there are many good schools and it would appear its much cheaper.

now, i would highly reccomend against getting your medic in fl and then trying to transfer it up here. you only get one crack as an out of state challange, then you have to repeat the program. thats an expensive oopsie.

as far as the firemedic thing, well we've discussed that already.

yes you have to find one...I know acouple if you needed some names...BCC is around 900 for their program ....
Most classes up here can get you mass and national certed
