Hello Everyone,

I finally decided to subscribe because I found myself reading the forums constantly for information. To cut to the chase....

I just accepted and signed the employment papers for AMR. I am working in the Sacramento area as an EMT. I start the AMR orientation academy on May 27th, and schedule to be done June 7th. I am unsure of the shift scheduling right after the orientation process and need to Fly home to Chicago for my cousins wedding on july 11th. I would only need to be gone for 4-5 days max but I don't know if I have to attend any mandatory shifts or can I just "not bid" for any shifts for the beginning of July.

To all the AMR employees out there do you think it is possible to take time off without technically taking vacation days to do it. Aka not bidding for shifts instead.

Thank you, Siler

Call hr asap and tell them of the commitment you have. I know most employers will work with you.

Do you think they will even if I haven't completed the orientation academy yet? Thank you. I will call them anyway to check!

The first ems job I had I told them I had to go out of town for a week the week after orientation. They were fine with it.

You should be able to get it off. Especially since it was a prior commitment you had made before being with the company.

A common question asked to pre-hires, &/or new hires in orientation is "Do you have any commitments in the next 6 months?"

I was asked during my interview with AMR, but every division is different.

Talk to HR/Scheduler ASAP. Waiting only makes you look unprofessional.

Will you be done with FTO time by then? Just don't bid for shifts during the time you're gone. If you end up with shifts give them away or trade.

Very good! Have a good wedding. Hows the academy going?
