Long story short I am in the process of helping to create a year long, wilderness, international course for college aged students. In working on the Risk Management/Liability we discovered something interesting: 911 isn't an option in the majority of the world. No 911, no search and rescue, and no helicopter...you save yourself or you're screwed (there's a nice relaxing thought!).

What we did find was Global Rescue. A private, member only, emergency service that is a cross between the armed services and dedicated medics.

.....think of it as being an EMT/Paramedic except that in less than 12 hours you could be dispatched to a medical emergency ANYWHERE in the world: https://www.globalrescue.com/

Wasn't sure if anyone on here might be interested but they are currently hiring medics.... ;)

Apparently no one is interested in adding more excitement to their job lol.....B)

How about another question: Those of you who are SAR or Military what do you think of organizations like this? Since it kinda coincides in my field I've done a bit of research and their is some debate on 'private rescue services'. This company for instance will rescue non-members....for a fee of $150,000.

There is debate of whether these kind of services should be required of those wishing to embark in wilderness expeditions in some parts of the U.S. so that they do not take advantage of volunteer services and use up the resources. On the flip-side of that than you have those who get into a pickle and refuse to call 911 because they "can't afford rescue"

If there's no 911, how do you know when you're dispatched & the location you're going?

All jokes aside, this concept does sound interesting.
