Hello, I'm new here.

I am moving from Houston, Texas to Edison, New Jersey. I am TCFP and EMT-B certified. I have worked for a private ambulance company for a little under a year and was in an academy to work as a firefighter. I had to quit both, to move to New Jersey as my husband has gotten a different PCS.

#1 Where in New Jersey or surrounding areas (like NYC) are hiring for firefighters? I am more interested in the fire side of things. Do I have to monitor the civil service website everyday? Is it a better career move to work as a volunteer for a while and then look for a paid position?

#2 What 911 companies are available in New Jersey? I am trying to avoid the private companies as they tend to stagnate your career. From what was told to me, 911 companies hate seeing private companies on your resume.

#3 Has anyone gone through the process of transferring your certifications to the equivalent needed to work in New Jersey?.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
