Came into work one day and had just settled in after the vehicle check. Dispatch phone rang which would usually mean (given the time) that we were about to be assigned a non emerg transfer, instead we were asked if we wanted to head over to the Community Safety Village for a standby for Police Week festivities. The safety village is a miniature town with streets, various stores and home, Police, Fire and EMS stations, rail crossings, etc. designed to teach kids various safety content. Rather than sit around my partner and I decided to help out with tours at our "Paramedic Station" in the village, wander around and talk to kids, get fed and generally get paid to relax. Dispatch actually offered to clear us midday and send a relief crew; nice try dispatch.
