Hi there,

Just like to ask anybody out here in the forum who has worked, or is familiar with a small EMS service located minutes north of Edmonton, AB. The service is called Medicare-EMS (www.medicare-ems.ab.ca). In particular, how are they as a service and as an employer?
They have casual openings for EMS professionals and I would like to give it a try.
Anybody who could provide some insight would be appreciated. Thanks and be safe.

I thought Alberta Health is going to take over ground EMS in the province so wouldn't you apply to Alberta Health for a job when they take over.

the transfer only means the regulation/management of EMS in Alberta will be turned over from municipal governments to the bigger provincial authority. That way everything becomes centralized as far as protocols, practices. medical direction, logistics and equipment.
you still go to individual offices responsible for hiring (e.g. City of Edmonton if wanting to go work for City EMS, to private ambulances, and so on...) and the Alberta College of Paramedics still remain the regulatory body for EMS professionals.

Medi-Care is... well its an interesting little service.

To put it bluntly it does not have a wonderful reputation. Its home to many good people, but its management often leaves something to be desired.

Its little private services like these that makes me really look forward to the health regions taking over EMS; it will be the same great people running under new management!
