I've been un able to procure a job right now as a EMT-B. Not very many people hiring and the few places hiring require you being 21 and I don't turn 21 until january. In this case I decided to apply to paramedic school. I applied to EMSTI in pleasington but label I have heard some bad things (I went to the stockton branch for my EMT-B and did fine). Is there anywhere else around Stockton or in the general area that I should look into applying to for paramedic school? I do not have experience as a EMT.

Honestly dude I know I'm going to sound like a broken record here. But it is really really hard to break into EMS if you have 0 experience and you are under 21. You're probably going to have to relocate or settle for a ER-tech job.

As far as Medic school. There are a few colleges in Sacramento if you are willing to Drive. American River College has a program that starts in January 2012 I think. And there is always NCTI.....

Have you looked into NCTI? Not sure how close you are to a campus. I am going through in Roseville and we had a few with no experience as EMT in our class.

Going to American River's Paramedic program takes a bit of pre-planning, but you'll be a better Paramedic for it, IHMO. You'll need to take some prerequisites and have a year of verified EMT experience.

This is their portion of the college catalog: http://web.arc.losrios.edu/catalog/Paramedic.pdf

You must follow the application process exactly. That's part of the selection process. On top of that, you will likely be subjected to a lottery selection whereby you may not be selected for a few semesters. I have no 1st-hand knowledge of how good their program is, but having met some of their grads, they do tend to produce good, safe beginning medics.

Sacramento State's College of Continuing Education also offers a Paramedic program. There's also NCTI. I don't know much about EMSTI unfortunately, as it pertains to their Paramedic program.

Just curious but why do you think it will be easier to find a job as a paramedic than it is as an EMT? Paramedic school is a HUGE investment (especially at your age). I live in the bay area too, and unless you are gonna seriously consider moving out of state or have an uncle who is a fire chief or something, I would try a little harder to work as an EMT first. I mean, what if you don't like it, or it's just not for you? I guarantee you that going to EMSTI, your looking at over a $10,000 investment. There are close to ZERO medic jobs in the bay area. my advice: Keep looking for an EMT job, wait until you acutally start touching patients and then consider paramedic school. And don't worry, new schools are popping up every year so they will still be there ready to take your money.

Well just to update I got the call at the beginning of the month since I was on a waiting list and have been working as a EMT since. Still want to go to medic school but I'm so close to my AA that I might finish that before I invest in the medic school so my requirements don't change.
