What was your longest call and why?

My longest call was about two years ago. We recieved a non-emergency call for an elderly man who needed transport to the hospital because he was feeling ill. It was about 2 AM, and I ended up following my GPS to the call instead of using my common sense. What should had been a 20 minute response time ended up being close to 45 minutes.

ATF ~60 male on bed AOx2. Pt was extremely diaphoretic and moaning. I can't remember vitals, but pt was short of breath and tachicardic. Vitals monitored, pt assessed, and placed on O2. The problem was that my partner and I couldn't find a way to get him down the stairs. My partner didn't feel comfortable using the stair chair on this 200lb guy, and the city didn't have a fire department. Unfortunately our EMS service was low on units and didn't want to send someone way out of our service area for this call. Eventually four fire fighters showed up, even though they had been recently booted from their jobs when the city decided to end its fire service (let that be a lesson to everyone).

Our transport time to the hospital was about 10 minutes, and I'd say our on-scene time was around 1-2 hours. It wasn't good :(

A local had a car accident in Northern Alaska... Four members of his family were killed. He was hospitalized there for three months, and required constant oxygen. They were unable to fly him due to oxygen, but mainly financial problems. It's one thing to use an Ambulance Plane, but that wasn't possible from Alaska back to Pennsylvania.. We had an oxygen generator installed, picked him up and drove him home.

No, I'm mistaken, it's four days to California, seven to Alaska three out, four back while loaded.
