Swine Flu scares Mott College not to hand congratulatory handshakes at graduation
Swine flu scares prompt Mott Community College to hand out diplomas without congratulatory handshake

FLINT, Michigan -- Swine flu is putting a damper on graduation traditions.

Graduates walking the stage this weekend at Mott Community College will be receiving their diplomas -- but no handshakes.

So congratulations but please keep your hands to yourself.

In a campuswide e-mail, MCC officials acknowledged that discontinuing graduation's symbolic handshake may be a wee much -- but better to be safe than sorry.

I'm going to quote part of the first comment to this story as I agree 100%
How a college, supposedly staffed by highly educated individuals can so misunderstand disease contagion amazes me.

I flew into Michigan to attend a graduation at Oakland University, and they read aloud a statement from the "Oakland County Health Department" stating that due to the H1N1 Swine Flu they were not to shake graduates' hands.

Well, it would seem to me that if you are close enough to shake their hand, you'll catch it from them anyway.
