I have mono.

And what a wonderful time to get it, too. I've got my final EMT-B practical exam tomorrow.

I knew this was going to be about mono as soon as I saw the subject line. Hope you feel better in time for practicals.

Thanks, I don't think I am though...Practicals are tomorrow and I'm in the first week of symptoms that last two to six weeks typically. I got it from my wife and she actually had it much worse than I seem to. Her spleen got up to 18 cm; the doc said mine was only "slightly" enlarged. It's actually only been since last night that I've felt any pain in that part of my abdomen at all, and even then only if I take a really deep breath or twist weird or something. And only very mild pain at that. As for a sore throat, sometimes in the morning, sometimes when I swallow, but other than that my throat has been fine. My left tonsil is very swollen; a bump is visible on my neck, in fact.

The doc actually seemed pretty surprised when I didn't ask for any pain meds or anything.

I've had a temperature hovering around 100.0-100.5 during the daytime and getting up to around 102.0-103.0 at night. I have mild whole-body achy-ness.

Sometimes I feel like I'm on a roller coaster, like my head is on top of my neck but my mind is somewhere a few feet nearby...

That sucks. The last time I had it i slept for 23 hours. Hope your feeling better.

When i went in to see the doc he looked at my throat and said I had strep so he gave me antibiotics after they were gone in a week I still felt like crap, so I went back in and he was like oh maybe we'll do a mono test. Sure enough thats what it was and gave me steroids and a couple days later I felt great.
