Hi, I'm a 19 year old girl and really considering becoming an emt. What are some things I should know good and bad? And what are some good ways to get into the physical condition id need to be in for this job? Thanks in advance, jj.

There is not much to do to "get ready" for a career in EMS. Once you get into the field and see what it is really like, rather than what you see on TV, you have to decide if it fits your personality. If one of the local services has a ride along program, you might want to try that first.
As far as getting into shape for the job goes, there is a whole section of the forum relating to health issues and there are several good threads on the topic so I would redirect you there.

If you are adventurous and care for people, don't get kweezy with the site of vomit, excrement and vomit go for it. And if you are right for EMS type work, there are not many bads. Pay is an issue as an EMT, so until you go paramedic, you won't make much money. But if you love the job, you will stick with it despite the pay. The only physically demanding part of the job is lifting patients and loading/unloading the ambulance gurney, which requires decent upper body strength. Do a ride-along, this will give you more perspective.
 
I don't think it's so much the site of vomit more the smell that gets me. Nothing a little vicks does not take care of.
