New EMT here and I have got my jump bag together - with the summer on its way - and eventually winter -

Do you keep your bag in the car or bring it in with you -at night, at work ect. pretty much when you will be out of the car for awhile?

Do you take it in every night? I ask because of the excessive heat and cold.

I have an ALS Bag in my car with a few meds and fluids I need to worry about in the cold months.

During winter I just bring it inside at night. Normal saline freezes at a couple degrees lower than regular water but either way you can't risk educing hypothermia...

During the summer I just leave it in the car or in the garage if I am home. Its not that big a deal unless you live somewhere that breaks 100 degrees the canvas bag shouldn't get that hot...

O yea i also have a mini o2 tank in the bag, that thing turns into an ice pack if you leave it in the car during winter.

My gear is in the house all the time if I'm not driving to/from the job I use it at, but that's mostly because I don't want it getting stolen if my car gets broken into.

Pretty much nothing at the bls level is temperature sensitive as far as the shifts you're likely to see in a car, remember all that crap sits in an ambulance all the time, sometimes one that sits unstaffed for days on end.

I have a backpack? I only carry a maglight (for a bat against dogs and in extreme extreme cases, psycho patients for self defense only. My "big shears", n-95 mask, some cheap cologne for inside the mask to help with odorous patients, my 500lumen led flashlight, my bp cuff and scope, map book and post sheet. That's it, just my stuff I use in the rig on shift. No ricky rescuing kit for me. I mean "oh I totally have a gurney in the back of my suv as well as 2 backboards, a ked, a hare, a bullet proof vest, some jaws of life and a search and rescue dog ;)

You should probably bring the rescue dog in at night, they get lonely.

And I think in some states it's illegal to leave an animal inside an unattended vehicle :P

Oh it's attended, I hired another basic to watch him... It's not like they make that much ;)

Fact: There are indeed medics around here making less than I currently do as a basic
