A private company, did not list name, listed #, I looked it up, they are registered with DOH as a service but have no website....

They offer an experienced EMT a position which pays $50 per call.

Now some people, not realists, may think that is great, capitalism, etc.

If there are a small handful of EMTs who steal, assault, etc, then there are a small handful who would manipulate the situation to maximize $....

There would also be conflicts among EMTs as who got what more profitable call, etc, dispacthers paid off (like in a car service)...

Funny also there were dozens of jobs for EMT instructors...one other EMT job, for a ten day camp.

That is also odd, at a certain point, prospective emt studnets will realize that in the past year or so, more emts have been churned out then postions to absorb them. Yet everyone seems to be taking a class, hence the need for instructors.

the 120 hours of EMT class appeal to people looking to change to a healthcare career or enter a healthcare career quickly in the current economic climate.

Some better off people think that a 8month to a year paramedic class is even better.

Many "vocational" programs to help people change jobs will pay for EMT classes. Most are so cheap even unemployment benefits might cover it, depending on what you are getting.

It is also one of the few jobs left that regularly hires people with just a high school diploma or GED and a handful of hours of training.

As always when there is money to be had, "educational institutions" spring up like flowers to "train" people. (aka teach to the test)

Welcome to EMS.

All "easy" to get in to industry are like that. When real estate was hot, California real estate department was doing test for 1k at a time. Now test are around 30 students that are always open. Same thing with EMT as it's "health industry" which is always in demand so for someone that is unemployed sounds like a good industry to switch over to being that education requirement is pretty low.
