It doesn't look like the ambulance went to the accident to begin with, as the teens left in another car, for treatment of their injuries.
I can see where the father is coming from...but the teens are as much to blame if not more than the police,
for leaving their mate at the scene and not telling anyone!

The parents certainly seem quick to assign all the blame to the police and none to the friends who left their son. The police searched the area and considering they were told there were only two people in the car, I think they did their part.

Yeah that is stupid to blame the police. About 4 years ago I was volunteer for a fire department. We got a call that a car may have driven off the side of a mountain. It was dark and we along with an ambulance and PD looked for about an hour and saw nothing. After a week or so later cal trans found the car with a women and little girl in it. The mother died on impact but the little girl was still alive. We looked everywhere and couldn't see it but everyone tried to blame us anyway. We kept getting calls at the station from the news and citizens telling us we didn't do our job, it was insane. It sucked but we did our best but apparently it wasn't good enough.

I do feel from his family...but still think blaming the police is just wrong!

It's part of the steps of dealing with grief.. Anger, Placing Blame, etc.. It's wrong of someone to not allow them to grieve.

We use a thermal imager on accident scenes to avoid this. A heat signature on the seat tells you how many warm butts were in the car. According to my husband, mine wouldn't leave a heat trace...

I like the idea of a thermal imager, but I bet it is too expensive for many places to have.

An incident like this happened a good 10+ years ago at the fire department where I grew up. Single vehicle accident on a rural stretch of highway. Off the edge of the road there is nothing but trees, no witnesses, driver was in the car and unconscious when someone drove up and saw the accident. The ambulance took him in and the police looked around and found no evidence of anyone else. 3 days later when the driver woke up in the hospital he started asking about his friend, so they went back to the scene and found his body about 200 feet off in the woods. They were never able to determine if he was thrown that far or moved himself. The police caught hell from the public but I they were cleared by their department.
