Does anybody have knowledge of a grant of around $1200 which is given to citizens for simply becoming an EMT by either Homeland Security or FEMA? I remember a chief telling the station I'm at about this but he never gave, or I do not recall, the specific name.

There was limited grant monies for volunteer fire agencies to send people to Paramedic programs about a year ago. There was certain criteria that had to be met and Fire Administration had to authorize the paperwork. For what I recall it was a limited grant and the expiration has way passed and no continuation has been offered.

I called the VA Office of EMS and was told that the funds for the program dried up on August 1st, my luck of course. They're hoping that the program will be replenished next fiscal year. However, you have 6 months after your EMT to apply for the grant, thank you bureaucracy! :wacko:

Check with Joblink. There is a "WIA" program that will pay for schooling up to about $4000 a year.

WIA = Workforce investment act

Rural/Metro granted me a scholarship which was made on behalf of a firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty. I had to commit to working with them for a year, but I think that is a good thing!
