Hi All,

I have a couple of questions:

So I passed my EMT-B class, took the National Registry yesterday (and passed, yay!). I'm wondering what my actual certification is, the paper I got from class, or will the National Registry be sending me something?

Also, do I have to wait till I get my ambulance cert. to apply, or should I just start applying?

Lastly, does any one know what types of questions are on the written exam for the ambulance cert. test? The book is pretty thick and has all types of codes and sections reprinted from everywhere.

Sorry if this questions seem stupid, and thanks for the help!

First and foremost Congrat's..!

It all depends upon where you live, county vs. state, etc.. Some states are NREMT states, some are not as well some are license and some are certified.

You need to contact your State EMS Division and find out specifics. Your instructor should be reprimanded for not teaching details involving your professional certification, etc.

Again, good luck!

At the very least, you are waiting for paperwork from the NREMT with your cert number, etc. If you are in need of a job, I'd probably start job hunting. Hopefully, you have some confirmation of your electronic test results. As long as you do, I'd apply and let the company know that you are waiting for the State or the NR to get you your cert card, but you passed your tests... Hiring always takes a long time... so getting a head start probably won't hurt.

Congrats! Check the NREMT website for your state EMS office's website and see what it requires. Get your state license and apply for a job. I was in the same boat when I passed NREMT. My instructors did not tell us what to do once we passed NREMT, but someone was kind enough to point me in the right direction to find the link to GA's EMS office on the NREMT site. It took about 2-3 weeks to get the rest of the required paperwork sent in, plus the $50 for the license fee and to get the license back in the mail. I would start job hunting as soon as you get your number from NREMT and tell them that you've applied for your state license and are waiting for that to come back. GA emailed me a PDF of my license, so I actually had the number and a printable license before I had the actual license in hand. Hope it goes quickly for you!

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for all your responses.

I actually received my NREMT packet with my certificate and card today. I still haven't received my course completion certificate though which is something I need in order to apply for the state cert (which is CA).

I guess I'll wait till I receive my course completion certificate to apply for state certification and then start applying for jobs. I have been looking into the ambulance companies where I live and on other websites for job postings. I really need a job! :o

So I still haven't received my course completion certificate.
Do you guys think it would be ok if I just printed out my transcript, the grades are up already.

I want to get all this out of the way so I can start applying...

Well, you can't do a thing without that license number and that card.

For instance, TN is an NREMT state; so you pay your $150 fee to the state for your license processing fee; and you go up on TN license verification website as

Rank: Emergency Medical Personnel
Title: Unnaproved Applicant

Lic: Unnapproved

Next, you pay your $70 to take the NREMT, await your ATT, then schedule with Pearson Vue; yadda yadda. Afterwhich, if you are passing--the state of TN(being a state that checks the NR twice monthly) during their sweep; will check the super-secret NREMT website; or however they do it to see whether or not you have passed. If you have passed; your license is processed with the state, lest you fail in which case you have 2 yrs and 6 attempts.

You are not eligible for hire until you provide your TN Lic #; and show up on the state website.

The good ole Certificate is just for the wall--the little card you carry; is the important part.

However, I must say; it is a rather nice looking certificate.
