We have to do a student scenario assessment as part of our class for our final exam. We are divided into groups and each group is given a subject. Ours was head trauma. We're left to think up the particular head trauma in our assessment. I'm drawing several blanks as I've obviously not seen or heard of much. Any ideas I can take back to my team that we can paw through in our considerations?

so you need to think up a scenario?

motorcycle vs suv. major vehicle damage, 2 large dents in windshield presumably from shoulder and head. RP reports motorcyclist initially lost consciousness, but he is conscious when you come on scene. LOC varying between 2 and 3 (person, place solid), and cannot remember things you tell him. 16 y/o male, Pulse 102 R 24 BP 144/102. fast, shallow breathing associated with anxiousness. large, deep laceration to the right wrist, pain in right thigh, small laceration to the underside of the chin, and tingling in toes. bystander holding cspine as you get on scene.

my latest call, should make a decent scenario for you guys.

Just clarifying, are we doing part of your final exam for you? Isnt this your assignment to complete yourself? If the creative muse is not working for you, consider looking through your textbook, to the discussion of head trauma, and some common causes. Come up with a scenario at the appropriate level to your training and experience.

Good Luck!

How about a student who can't think of a head trauma scenario bangs head repeatedly on desk because of mental block? :)

Hm. Here's a new one.

Pt found sitting on curb holding head, resists palpation by jerking away and screeching whenever you try to touch his head or neck. Complaining of pain. No bleeding. States fell off bicycle, struck head, remembers being knocked out, and now his migraine is killing him, he is seeing little stars and his entire head is throlbbing. Pt does not directly answer most questions, and looking while talking with him you see no obvious marks, no other c/o, face symmetrical, PERLA, speech ordered and purposeful. When you suggest that you both go sit on a nearby bus bench he insists on being helped to his feet and helped to the bench, but sits down squarely and without hesitation. Reiterates history of migraines, can't remember which MD is treating him at "that clinic on Main, you know?".

My usual co-pay is $3, I take Paypal...;)

It's just ideas I'm taking to my group. Then we as a group decide what we want to do. Its for a group final evaluation, not on the scenario itself, but how we act as a team in treating the pt.

Thanks Guardian, that's a good one. We have a lot of motorcycle v. ____ around here.

I'm already half way there.
