Good evening yall,

I was a tiny bit active on this forum years ago, not sure how active it is these days but I figured I’d give it a shot. I’m a Flight Paramedic in Louisiana currently, plenty of time doing inter-facility transfers, 911, critical care and flight critical care medicine under my belt (at least I like to think so) and I’m looking for a change of pace. When I last posted here years ago I was a flight medic in the Army. I’ve been out for a bit now and when I got out stayed in Louisiana (hired on as a full time flight paramedic when I left the Army, have done 911 / interfacility / critical care transport both in the Army and PRN on the civilian side since 2018) simply because the job was there and it was easy. I’m originally from California and have no intentions of going back, anyway I’m looking for my forever home and several friends have told me about Idaho and asked me to move there with them. I’m looking for any information on the job market there, I’m not above going back to ground EMS if that’s where the need is, I love flight but I know those positions are not always available so I’m looking for any information into the Idaho area, most likely the central portion of the state, aka south-west of the nose.

TL;DR: Fairly experienced Paramedic with ground 911, inter-facility, critical care experience as well as flight experience with FP-C inquiring about job opportunities in Central Idaho, thanks.

I appreciate everything this forum is, I’ve referenced it several times over the years.

Define central Idaho. Ok... So here's the scoop. Air st Luke's, Life flight Network, classic air, and air Idaho rescue (air methods) are the 4 air med providers in Idaho. ASL is the only hospital based program. Classic is technically associated with intermountain health but that's a different story. Depending on what you mean by central Idaho depends on how I answer ground transport EMS. South Central you have magic valley paramedics which is run by St Luke's (technically under air st Luke's). East Idaho like Idaho falls is fired based. Boise area is a mix of Ada county paramedics, canyon county paramedics, Elmore ambulance, payette county paramedics, Washington county paramedics. As you go more rural into the true central Idaho you have mostly volunteer with the occasional paid EMS agency. Canyon is struggling with their budget so I don't know when they are hiring. Payette sometimes will take an unsolicited application. Ada is about to open their application process.

The air med agencies I am not sure what their hiring timeline is like at the moment.

Idaho is beautiful. I want to go to Alaska but my wife won't move so I'm stuck here quite happily.

Happy to answer any specific questions. Feel free to post them here.

Thanks for the response Potato, I suppose it would be the central / south / west region, Boise area or in that general vicinity anyway. Appreciate the information dude. I’ve worked in a good amount of states PRN while in the military, NY, Texas, Louisiana now full time. How are the protocols out there, is Idaho known as one of the more progressive states or is it a California? (No offense to CA medics, I feel for you).

For some reason no one likes to publish their protocols except Ada county. Canyon closely follows Ada counties protocols. I'd say they are a fairly progressive scope. Idaho State EMS also has protocols that I'd assume a lot of the more rural agencies follow. The HEMS/CCT world does have an expanded scope compared to 911 medics. Mostly in regards to invasive monitoring, chest tubes, blood, and pressure vent settings.
