I want to be an EMT

Hmmm....

a 30 second check of the Marin county EMS website shows no requirement for CFR before becoming an EMT. Only the usual stuff for other counties in California, LiveScan, DOJ background check, certs from the school and NREMT etc.

A CPR card is required to be presented when applying for your county certs, I would imagine but can't state positively that an EMT class would also include the CPR training and certification. There is nothing on the website about requiring any other specialised training before enrolling in an EMT class, ie, first aid.

Like i said, the CFR class wasnt required, but was the easiest way to get the Title 22 and the CPR card

Guess it wasn't clear enough...

CPR for health care providers is part of EMT training, I don't know what "getting title 22" even means. Except that is isn't mentioned in the list of requirements to "get" an EMT certification in Marin County.

My point was that with about a minute's worth of checking one can find out a lot of stuff straight from the actual authority instead of relying on opinions from well meaning yet ill-informed people on a web forum.

Good luck with your class.

Title 22 is the CPR for the Health Professional. I'm not sure my class will have us learn CPR because we are all required to have CPR before you are allowed to take the class

Might I suggest...

that you do a simple Google Search with California Title 22 as the subject?

And then go to the Marin County EMS website and find the part where it mentions Title 22 anywhere in the requirements for becoming a certified EMT.

I'm curious, who told you that you were required to already have a Health Care Providers CPR card before you could take an EMT class?

I too would skip the first responder course and go straight to the basic so you can work on a rig. I am taking medic right now (actually this is my break from studying) at 22 and am about average age in my class. I took FR at 17 and was by far the youngest but never had any troubles with lack of respect, maybe it depends on your geographical region. Took EMT-B last year which is a lot easier after first responder because it's 95% the same stuff but it's taught that you're working out of an ambulance rather than a bag in the back of your car.

My basic class did a real quick brush up on CPR, AED and choking patients but we didn't go through a full course and get a card at the end of the day. We were required to be CPR and AED certified prior to class but if you look around you can probably find at least one class being run any day of the year.

John, you're right, the Marin County EMS site says nothing.

However, the College of Marin, where he probably wants to take his class, in their catalog states "(6 units)(Prerequisite: First Aid for Public Safety Personnel or equivalent and CPR for Health Care Providers. Previous EMT-1, EMT-2, EMT-P accepted." Took me a while to find, as it's part of the fire technology program, EEEK. BTW, California Title 22 isn't just CPR HCP, it's also, essentially, CFR.

That's where I'm at. Good old College of Marin or Univeristy of Kentfield

In my region, a HCP CPR and Industrial First Aid are required prior to being able to apply for EMT class.

Also Rochelle, don't assume that math is un-learnable forever because you had a difficult time with it in school. In many cases, the parts of the brain that are used in abstract math concepts are not fully developed until you reach your 20's. Most common in female brains but not unheard of in males as well. I struggled with math through high school and passed through Calculus in college with honors. A teacher friend of mine explained why.
