I had my first fatal crash (while actually on duty)

Hey Hockey,

I agree take tomorrow off, relax with family, I see you are from Michigan so I assume you are a wings fan, so sit back tomorrow night and enjoy the Wings, Predators game with family or friends and just enjoy what you have, do your best not to dwell on the what happened. And remember good mental health is not a matter of forgetting or ignoring but accepting and moving on...though often easier said than done.

You sound like me after...

Thanks for the advice everyone and sharing and I know it won't be the last for sure.

I asked my partner how I did on scene since this was the worst MVA I've had and he said I did great (minus the falling!). I figure if I don't do it, nobody else is going to so do it and get it over with. It was after the call I realized just how bad everything was

Hockey, you sound like me after my ambulance somewhat got hyjacked. My partner and I was in Brockton, MA on 911 call. It was chest pain, so we called for als. Everything was fine until, we were about 2 mins into transport. I was following our CA truck (Brockton's 911 truck, aka Contract Ambulance)to the Brockton. When suddenly the CA stops for no aparrent reason. When I go by him to look at what is going on, some guy runs from the front of the CA and jumps into the front seat of my truck. Now I have the Pt, the Medic, and my partner in my truck. Needless to say, I told this guy to get the blank out of my truck. Of course, he didn't listen. He is telling me that they are after him and he has a very small wound somewhere, I can't remember where though. Next thing I notice is two cars turning around with only parking lights on. I said screw this I am out of here. I cont. down the street and saw some cops that pulled some kids over. I stop the truck and the guy jumps out. Mind you this was 3 am. I told the cops what happened very quickly and cont. transport to the hosp. After Pt care I found out that the guy had a big knife. I didn't even notice it. I wasn't happy. I t didn't hit till every thing was done and over with. I now lock the Ambulance doors on every 911 call.

i cannot remember my first fatality accident but I do remember it being a 30 year old pregnant mom. So in essence we had two fatalities instead of one.

I remember coming across a fatal accident on the roadway in my hometown. This one was particularly tough since it was a teenage boy who snook out of the house to go to a party and drove home drunk. The parents never knew he left the house.
