The more I learn about my local ambulance service the more I see that they seem to be very progressive. Just wondering what progressive methods or whatever you want to call it some other services are running so post up what you've got.

Two that come to mind for my service is the ability of paramedics to clear C-spine in the field. The second is very recently the medical director approved protocols for using an ATV in certain trauma situations. Now with the Zoll autopulse and an ATV how much lazier can we get?

we just got approved to administer oxygen in the event of hypoxia last month. i think we're doing pretty well....

From within your warped and demented mind...................

OP, what is your definition of progressive? Is it procedural or protocol advancements? Staffing? Equipment?

As far as procedures go, more and more agencies are getting with the times and starting to realize that the age old restrictions imposed on EMS are not practical. I'd say plan on seeing a lot more "progression" in the next few years..................

I would hope that the introduction of technology does not mean one should get lazier. Even the ATV needs some extra training and education to understand what can and cannot be accomplished by some mechanical assist device. Since these devices have few or no monitoring capabilies, they do require patient assessment since your hands are not "feeling" what the patient is doing. There too there have been serious complications to patients just from a lack of appropriate education and not taking the time to understand the device as it relates to patient application with good assessment.

Dr. Bledsoe recently discussed C-Spine protocols in his article and how some do tend to get forget how the protocols are meant to be used.

We've also seen what "laziness" did for RSI in the recent Texas news article. There were no other reasons for not using the ETCO2 if one had it or checking BS during RSI except for laziness.
