How much should i expect yearly as an EMT-B living in Memphis, TN. I think our pay is around $9-10 an hour.

You just answered your own question. Or rather, set up a simple math problem to solve.

The problem preventing others from estimating is that we don't know how many hours a week you are planning on working. Are the EMT-Bs there part-time? Full-time?

im going for full-time

im going for full-time

Full time means what exactly? 3 12 hour shifts? 4 12 hour shifts? 4 10 hour shifts? 5 8 hour shifts? Time and a half after 8 hours/day or is it after 40 hours/week? Are you eligible for double time?

how many hours/week do you plan to work and do you get time and a half. With that you can tell how much you'll make in a week and there's roughly 52 weeks in a year. Simple math. If you plan on 40 hour weeks with no overtime or extra pay for working holidays it's usually considered 2080 hours in a year.

i could totally understand this question coming from someone who doesnt have the foggiest clue what an emt gets paid, but you have an idea of your hourly. so you posted here because you didnt want to do the math? are you kidding?

I know a EMT-B that works swing shift, brings home $900-$1000 every two weeks. I think they do 120 hours every two weeks though.

Yeah my bad. You need to consult medical direction to get approved to use complex arithmetic such as multiplication.

Well, we used to have units on all the trucks, but they weren't required so my company removed them to save money.

i dont kno how many hours they work or when overtime kicks in. or how much they make here in memphis i just was going off of what i heard. i was hoping somebody knew. its not simple math if u dont have the figures

even without the "where ot kicks in" type details, you could have had a pretty good estimate just from the information you gave us

$9/hr x 40hr/wk= 360/wk

52(wks/yr)x 360= 18,720 gross/yr

$10/hr x 40hr/wk- 400/wk

52 x 400 = 20,800 gross/yr

Here's the formula:

First figure out the amount of your regular hours wages. This is the base pay multiplied by the number of non-overtime hours in your pay period. In a two week pay schedule this will be 80 hours.

Find out what the average number of hours worked in a pay period. Total hours...including overtime. Subtract out the base hours (80) and the difference is the amount of hours for which you will be paid overtime.

Overtime is generally 1.5x the base wage. In some cases there is a shift differential for holidays, graveyard, or other issues. You wlll have to look at your contract/employee handbook to get these figures.

So.. base wage x 80 hours, plus the average ot hours x base wage x 1.5 = the amount of your gross pay. Generally a good rule of thumb is to deduct 25 - 30% off that for your net pay.

To extrapolate this into a yearly wage. figure 40 hours a week x 52 weeks a year. For monthly divide that amount by 12
