Hi all,

I plan on attending a 2 day hospital conference on Trauma with different classes being taught within the 2 days. They request you be certified or licensed already as a doctor, nurse, EMT, paramedic etc...

I've already registered and the price was minimal. My question is since I am currently not working for any EMS station but have applied to a few agencies already, will it be worth it to put these courses down on my resume and update it accordingly? The classes provide a certificate issued by the hospital itself at the end of each course.

Thanks,

~ Lucy

Since I am aware of the conference you are attending

1. Generally its not put down on a resume. However nothing is wrong with putting it down. It shows your committed and interested in learning and you will be on top of recertifying.

2. You will need the CEUs for recertification so its perfectly fine to attend.

If you don't mind me asking which hospital are you going to and how do you findout about these training opportunities

I don't understand. I am not going to a hospital.

Your going to the trauma seminar you mentioned in the PM, yes? These training opportunities are offered and promoted by regional councils.

NYC remsco lists CEUs in NYC. NYS DOH EMS beurau may have info. Individual agancies offer such things as well.

I didn't PM you, that was someone else, but thanks for the reply. I was asking about the CEU stuff.

sorry, didn't look at who was posting.

There is a "trauma symposium" at a local hospital in Rockland county. Lucy is going. It is a conference that health pros can get all their CEUs in 1 place.

Hypochondriac,

I will be attending a hospital conference up in Nyack, NY. I am aware of this conference because I know a few EMT's and Medics who will also be attending - and I am assuming they are registered through a NYC or NYS agency that provides this information or they were able to look it up on line via the Department of Health or some other search tool. I will be travelling with a fellow EMT who volunteers at the same Station I do.

Your state should offer this information available to you online through a .gov issuance or just call your local hospitals to see if and when they offer anything of the such.

Hope I helped!

Firecoins,

At the risk of sounding unprofessional, what exactly is a CEU?

continuing education unit, I you have to get so many to be able to renew your state license and nremt numbers, it is like 36 every 2 years I think, could be more in different states.

Good grief,

Thanks for the explanation of a CEU. How is EMS down in GA?

You'll also see CEUs (since that was answered) called "continuing education" (CE) and "continuing medical education" (CME).
