Hospital employees disciplined for taking pictures of shark bite victim

STUART — Martin Memorial Health Systems is disciplining several employees for their involvement in taking and e-mailing photographs while Stephen H. Schafer, a Stuart man killed in a shark attack, was in the Martin Memorial Medical Center Emergency Department.

Two students in the Indian River State College paramedic program have been placed on academic probation as a result of the incident.

Miguel Coty, vice president and chief marketing communications officer for Martin Memorial, said the disciplinary actions “range from written warning, suspension and demotion to loss of position.”

pictures on duty

I would never let my students or any one else take pictures of patients dead or alive. They are shared (you know they are) and a lawsuit can easily be forth coming. Don't be stupid, leave you cell phone/camera in you pocket. Take a picture of your partner when their asleep and scratching their private places.
