So I got an invitation to join an honor society with my university. It does make me available for additional scholarships I would not otherwise be able to apply for. However, is that all it does? Is this something I list on my Resume? Is this anything that will help/effect me when I apply for graduate school next year?

feedback, opinions, rumors, all welcome.

It depends. Legitimate and prestigious national/international societies are one thing, and generally regarded favorably, but there are some that are in existence solely as resume fluff and to take you money. Is this society the top one in your field of study?

It's one of those resume additions that may help with the next step after college, like grad school or your first job in your degree field, especially if there are activities the society does on campus. I don't think it really matters much too far down the road.

There's a big difference though in being in an honor society, whose inclusion standards are a bit lower than graduating with honors. If your looking to impress with academic prowess, shoot for your universities honors program and try and get the funky Latin words after your degree.

Thanks for the information. I guess I have been in the dark regarding this stuff. I'll look into it some more for sure, if nothing else its Resume fluff I suppose. In terms of the university's own honors, ya I am also shooting for that, but we will see.

You do get a pretty colored tassel also. You never know when you may need a vibrant regalia hanging around for those special occasions.
