I start with them as a Medic in March. Pretty progressive system.
You'll need both current national reg as well as a HI EMT/reciprocity before you apply. Watch city and county website to see when they are hiring. Then get ready for a bunch of plane flights out of pocket. Gotta do an interview, test, and medical. On the bright side Hawaiian airlines has nonstop flights to new york now.
Keep in mind that EMT is only a temp position. They'll want you to go medic.
Also remember that HI doesn't only have a completely different mind set than NYC, also a completely different culture. A lot of it is a melting pot of Hawaiian, other Polynesian, and asian influences. Not to mention its' own local laid back friendly style. I love my new yorker friends but it takes a little bit to get used to the bluntness and "emotions on sleeves".
Even though Oahu is busy, it's still a much slower pace of life.
I think I'll be one of the few mainland medics currently out there.
Hey guys! How often does C&C hire? Thing is I'm looking for a PT EMT-B or (if I'm lucky) PT Medic position with mostly weekend shifts, does the scheduling work out like that?
I'm a Medic student post-bacc, on the East Coast at the moment, working part time for two companies (rural and inner city, fun combo). I'm waiting to hear back from UH Med school so I'm putting out some feelers, I can't imagine not doing EMS and the extra money would help but it would have to be like one shift a week max. I would consider HFD too but I'm imagining that would be more of a time commitment?
It would be so much easier if I could just clone myself.
