I've been lurking around here for a while, and thought I'd introduce myself.

I am a paramedic, used to work in a small urban system, and now I am staying home with my three kids, age 3, 2, and 2 months. I have just realized that I am neglecting a huge part of myself, and I am just itching to get back to EMS, so I am trying to get some time to volunteer in our local rural county.

I wonder if there are any others out there like me, who "retired" at the top of their game, and now have the itch again?

This place is so much fun, I can't wait to get into posting some more. I have a message board addiction.

Welcome to EMTlife. We put the Fun in Dysfunction!

Don't let your EMT-P expire... keep it up... you'll be ticked in a year or two if you've got to start from scratch.

And volunteering or working PRN is a great way to get "back into" things

:) :) :) Welcome!! :) :) :)

I wasn't in it before I became a mom but am doing it now after 4 years of being at home with the kiddies. Definitely don't let your -P expire!!! Good luck on the volunteer job!

Oh, no, I'm not going to let my paramedic expire. I did let my registry go, simply because those hoops are higher to jump through than my state certification, and I wasn't thinking when I did that, because now I can't precept -P and -I students at all. Teaching is what I love love love. I can say for absolute certain unless my husband dies I am NOT going back full time, ever, but I do wish I'd thought about that before I let that glitter patch slip away from me.

Welcome to the forum! I hope you find a position that suits your current situation.....satisfies the itch and keeps you close to your family. Good luck!
