Alright here's the situation. If it is not assumed I have done my research and am just asking for help, not ridicule. I mean respect all around if that is not already implied.
Ohio based 25 y.o. Male RN. Currently finishing my BSN through Ohio State. 4 years healthcare hospital experience. I work 60 hours a week (24 Oncology / 36 ICU) and love it and am that adrenaline junkie. ACLS, BCLS, PALS, PEARS, TNCC, CCRN, OCN certified.
Ohio does not let RN's challenge the state boards.... Sucks, but I agree, two very different roles and sides of medicine, adds more respect to each role!
I landed a job at Cleveland Clinic as a Trauma ICU RN through a residency program - Yes super pumped, I am moving hours away for the position but that really helps me for my goal sets. I want to eventually just work ER at a level 1 but I cannot turn down this opportunity. I want to do 2 years then switch to ER as I will be prepared at this point, finished with my bachelors and maybe even MSN by then.
I start mid to end of February 2015. My current employer awards vacation hours January 1st each year and I will be given 120 to do with what I want. Instead of continuing to work then cash in those vacation hours as I leave for the new job, I am planning on using them all for January and go wherever I can complete an accelerated EMT-B Course during that month. I am struggling in finding accelerated EMT-B courses in Ohio. Maybe some that encompass the entire month of January to early February? I have wanted to do my EMT-B for many years so that I can volunteer ride along and assist in my state, and gain valuable experience as I feel that's where the real learning happens. This has been my only real opportunity with family, financial, and educational needs being put first. Any input in this is highly welcome. Thank you for your time!
Also, I just learned of this site from an ER Medic I am friends with. I cannot wait to start eating up what some threads have to offer
