I'm signed up for the accelerated emt class next week......having second thoughts. I've been a stay at home mom for quite a while. I've always thought being an emt would be fun, but I like staying at home too. Im afraid to leave my comfort zone...but I would like to try it too....lots of anxiety!

just because you become an EMT doesnt mean you have to work for as an EMT. you can take the class just for your own knowledge. you said you are a stay at home mom so it could be really helpful with your kid/s.

Why did you sign up for the class? Did you think it would be fun, informative, engaging? Well guess what, it is. Are you worried about the class or the job? The class is fairly easy in my opinion, but getting to work out in the field totally rocks.

Let's put it this way: If being other than a stay-at-home Mom causes you anxiety and you really DON'T want to leave your comfort zone, then it's unlikely you'd take the kinds of risks it takes to actually USE the skills you'd be taught in the class.

No judgment here, just reflecting back your own words. Taking the class wouldn't be a risk, but using the skills might. All that's left is you knowing WHY you want to take the class.

Just do the class. You said it's accelerated, so it won't be long. Give it a shot, if you decide you don't like it, well, atleast you learned some stuff to help your family (hopefully it never comes to that point)

Stepping out of being a full-time SAHM these past few months, I've experienced similar hesitation. There is so much mom guilt out there, it's easy to be overwhelmed with it, and just sit home.

OP, what you have to do is identify what the highest priority items are for your family, short, medium and long term, and then set goals and stick with them. The day-to-day will suck your life away if there are no goals.

Also, having goals helps when the people are crying or having grilled cheese for dinner for the third night that week because you're heading to class.

Can you tell I'm about to step out of my comfort zone into a class, too?

Thanks guys, that makes me feel better and gives me a little insight....and yes Dana I have that exact feeling. I got accepted into the class in October, then by December had almost talked myself out of it....I guess I can be a good mom, wife and do this too.....besides, where I live allows part-time which would allow me to stay at home too....I guess there is just still something telling me to go for it, so I'm going to go with my gut feeling even though I still may have a few anxieties....I will just keep praying about it.

My first response was a very GUY kinda thing, and I appreciate abc's reminder! So let me offer encouragement for you to move through your resistance if it ADDS to your life and makes you a better human being as well as a Mom. Your kid(s) will love you more for it!

Give it a shot. I took EMT not wanting to be an EMT. Then I took Paramedic even though I didn't want to be a Paramedic...now look at me...:D

There also

You should go ahead. I am 41 and have been SAHM for 18 yrs (my baby just turned 18) I always wanted to work in the field and finished EMT-B a couple weeks ago. It actually built self esteem in me since I kinda thought all I would ever do is be a mom. I even decided to start paramedic classes in Aug. I bet you will really enjoy the EMT class.

Go For It. :P

I would take it, But before you do look into the return policy and see if there is a money back policy if you drop early. But Its lots of fun and dont think it would be a problem and like others mentioned the knowledge is good to have for your kids
