I'm not normally one to post fire incidents, but this is a widespread national emergency affecting a large EMS system.

Within the past 48 hours, a terrible fire has hit the hills outside of Haifa, Israel. Firefighters from all over the country and region are working hard to fight the blaze, which at this time appears to be under control. At this time, it appears there have been approx. 40 casualties-- many from a bus of prison guards traveling to a jail in the effected area to assist the evacuation. Nearly 17,000 people have been moved out of the area, and the police are threatening to evacuate those who refuse by force.

According to an email forwarded to me, 300 Paramedics and EMTs (Medics), 67 ambulances, 11 Mobile Intensive Care Units (ALS/CCT), 1 Mobile Command Unit, and 1 helicopter have been mobilized by Magen David Adom, the national ambulance service. The National Fire Service has worked hard through the night to fight the blaze, with international aid assistance from Turkey, Italy and XXX.

Magen David Adom has pioneered international mass casualty management through their experience with terror attacks, and frequently offers assistance internationally, but now is accepting other's help. Political boundaries have been shattered for the sake of human solidarity and saving lives.

My support and encouragement goes out to all Incident responders-- from the line firefighters to the Medics, Paramedics, Physicians, Incident Commanders, and the strong network of Search, Rescue and body identification personnel.

As more information comes in, i'll update this.
