My employer recently approached me about becoming a AHA BLS Instructor. I did some research into it and, while some of my questions have been answered, some haven't so I turn to you.

As much as I like helping my community I like getting paid so my first question is who pays for the courses and where does my cut come from? My education director said I would get $75 a class and be assigned 2 classes on a given day. I assume in that instance my employer would pay me but what if I decide to change my affiliation or move to a different state? Would my Training Center feed me students or would I have to seek out my own?

As I understand it, teaching CPR isn't so much teaching as it is facilitating a video. How do Community Colleges and Private EMT schools view this experience? For that matter, what are the steps to becoming an EMT instructor in your state? In Louisiana, to teach at a Community College you have to hold at least a B.S. I'm not sure about other private facilities.

How is it? Do you enjoy teaching? My mother was an inner-city school teacher and she found it both challenging and rewarding but I doubt this will be similar in anyway.

Thanks for your help.

I just became an instructor, but not for AHA. I did it through ECSI (Emergency Care and Safety Institute), which is run by the AAOS and ACEP.

Good luck.

I've been trying to become an AHA BLS Instructor, but I can never find any classes for it

I got lucky, a friend of mine is faculty at one of the Hospitals and he's giving me a huge discount. Have you asked your education director?
