Hi! I havent actually started my EMT-B course yet, but I've been studying for weeks about EVERYTHING lol and my town FD told me I could come on a drill with them after my mom signed some papers (I'm going to be an emt junior by the way) and I was wondering what to expect and what to wear, I know you're supposed to wear 3 layers and boots, but I pretty much only have UGGs and want to be prepared, so if anyone had any tips that would be great.Thanks!

What to expect;

Blood, gore, bodily fluids, vomit, crying, laughing, anger, happieness, violence, old people, young people.

What to wear;

Whatever can get all said bodily fluids on it without care, and still look professional.

Whats an EMT Junior?

An EMT junior is a registered EMT who is between the ages of 16-18, at least in my state. But I'm pretty sure there are limitations on what you can do, being under 18 and everything. So are jeans ok? Lol

Get some dark blue ****ies.

Or better yet, ask the FD what they'd recommend.

Good on you, great way to start. Wear long pants, long sleeves, and at least light hiking boots. Take light gloves and eye protection. As said, expect lots of (simulated) gore and surprises.

The makeup for wounds is called "moulage", and is meant to help you get used to dealing with gory situations in a calm, straightforward way. When you see moulaged wounds, you can remind yourself that they are fake, and that helps you to deal with them (plus they don't usually smell like the real thing). And when you later encounter real wounds of the gory type, your experience with moulage practice lets you say to yourself, "Heck, I've seen that before", and just go on with helping the patient instead of getting grossed out by it. Very important part of your early training. Sometimes called "stress innoculation".

Have fun!

My advice is not to wear uggs.
Challenge yourself, take risks, but stay calculated. Learn some, laugh some, and live some.

Good Luck

Hey now, in Michigan 16 is legal and Texas 17 is legal... so I'd be safe in one of those 2 states!

Now, creepy is my dad is 9 years older then my mom. He was driving when she was learning multiplication.

Your department should give you pretty specific instructions about what to wear, what you can and cannot do and what to expect. They should assign someone as your guide who will keep you out of danger/trouble. If they don't.. run! Run away.. very fast!
