So, it seems the State EMS office is dragging their feet on issuing my License. A lot of places have told me to apply anyway while awaiting since I already have my NR and that means I will get my license, its just a matter of the paperwork being filled out.

The ETA of my license seems like it'll be a while's out and by the time i get it, i may only have a month left before I have to relocate to Missouri for the fall semester. I'll be back for winter break (half of december and half of january) and for summer break (may through august) and be willing to work then, but none of the companies that are here in ohio are also out in missouri. Do i still have a chance at getting hired? Should I wait until next summer?

Also, to recert for NREMT, i know I need a min 6 months affiliation. and since I really don't want to be working as a TA on campus while taking 18 credits with Organic Chemistry as 3 of those, I was hoping I could still fulfill this by working only in ohio during my breaks.

Thanks for any info/advice you guys have!

I'm not in Ohio... I think the best advice is to call the local companies and ASK... I'm sure they've seen how long the state can take - and they might have a workaround.

Additionally... they might or might not be willing to hire a college student in your situation - but the worst they can do is say no.

tough call man...it may be rather hard for a company to invest in you if they know that you will be leaving them soon (anything less than 5 years in most cases). try and apply anyways, most wont check until after they consider you a potential candidate anyways.

What I am told is that we're shorthanded for private ambulances in the columbus area right now, and they have units sitting empty during the days with no staffing.

They used to have a workaround where they let people work on just a national registry card as a "driver" who also provided pt care, but I hear the story is that one of these "drivers" messed something up and the company got sued for letting him work a pt w/o a license with just NR (which is illegal in Ohio) so now they don't let this happen.

I'm wondering where most college EMTs find work? I'd work at my school on the volly BLS team, but its a really selective department and really hard to get into.
