I'll be here in Iraq to at the very least August 31st of 2010, my NR and state certs expire March of 2011. With that said, perhaps you all can help me figure out the best way(s) to obtain CE's while abroad. I know there are online courses, but I believe that all of your CE's can not be obtained online. I have heard there are waivers while an individual is abroad, but I am not certain. For any of you that have had to deal with this, I would much appreciate it.

In case you are bored, here are my state requirements:

Thanks in advance

Not too difficult to accomplish. I have been working abroad for years...

Refreshers are easy to obtain (you may want to search for "refreshers" and see what has been written before).

I personally use eeii.org as they offer a home study refresher.

Friends of mine recommend the two sites below for other CME and refreshers.

www.ifeme.com

www.mediced.com

In addition to those, as you know ACLS and BLS are easily obtained at most bases, even the FOBs. You can do most of it online and then with a little sniffing around and effort you can get someone either military or civvie to sign you off for the rest, usually at the military training centers. If that is not possible, then on your RnR it is very doable.

One RnR, I had to pay extra to simply have a course conducted 1 on 1 on a day I wanted since my time was short.

In addition to those options, simply train within your organization or with the military. Document all the training and keep it in the employer files. Keep a dated training roster and photocopy it. Have a supervisor sign off as the Training Officer. Train with your coworkers and start with the basics.

You have more than enough time and ability to do these things, it just takes effort on your part but it is not impossible.

Other options are to schedule your RnR around an EMS conference, there are several a year in different places. Boston hosts a large one but you can find one in many different states. I have attended conferences in Alaska, South Carolina, Florida, Las Vegas to name a few. All can provide you with many CMEs.

It should be fairly easy. I am taking my whole EMT course online. It's so much easier to balance my schedule, with out having a classroom to go to. I can see this being the standard in the years to come. I found many worthy courses with a simple search on Lycos SE. Good luck, and thank you for your service to the country...

Yeah I signed up for MedicEd the other day so I can get it done at college although I would prefer classroom and practical.

But is there seriously a completely online EMT class? don't you have to do practical evaluations? It's just my 2 cents but wouldn't you want to hands-on teach a hands-on job?
