Woman Tased during ambulance transport
By GREG WELTER - Staff Writer

ORLAND -- It took a shock from a Taser gun and the efforts of six officers to control a heavily intoxicated woman being transported by ambulance Tuesday night to Enloe Medical Center in Chico.

Orland Police Chief Bob Pasero said Escalante Alejandrina, 26, was found at her Walker Street apartment about 9:30 p.m. possibly suffering from alcohol poisoning.

Westside Ambulance was driving the woman east on Highway 32 when she broke loose from her restraints and assaulted a paramedic. ..............

(Kip Says) Here is the BS part:

Pasero said his department will request that charges be filed against the woman by the Glenn County district attorney, but said her level of intoxication probably makes that unlikely.

Kip Says.... So, if she was a drunk and ran over a person on the street, NO charges would be filed ?

If she was drunk and assaulted a police officer ....would charges be filed?

BS!

Great point, Kip.

The question is - is their an "involuntary" level of assault? If she realistically wasn't acting in her right mind, should she be charged, or just remanded to an in-patient ETOH abuse treatment center?

I think the reality is that the person would have most likely been charged with resisting or a similar offense if it were an officer, but only bundled with other charges. There is a good chance the medic doesn't want to have to deal with the legal/paperwork crap, and since it's already part of our job already, why start prosecuting now?

It is calls like this that lead to the under-reporting of the numbers of assaults on EMS.

The report said it took 6 officers and a Taser to get her under control

Drugs or alcohol intoxication are no excuse for criminal activity. If it were non-purposeful movement (there should be no charges then) it would not take six officers and a Taser.

The Taser is a pain-compliance tool. The person must recognize " Man, that sucked!" and not want it to happen again in order to work.

I am all for she should be charged. It was still her "Conscious" effort to drink. Even if she has a problem. What if the medic was severly injured? WOuld they say.... Oh well....

You can bet your butt if she had assaulted a LEO, drunk or not she'd be facing charges.

I love our LEO's here. Patients assault us in any way...even as simple as spitting on us, if we choose to have them, they will arrest them and the county prosecuter will follow through with charges. They really back us up. We obviously, don't abuse it, but its really great to have the back up of PD and/or SO.

And unless they are tied up otherwise, for calls in my District, they tend to show up on almost every call, even the LOLFDGB calls. They tell my partner and I, if nothing else they can help the FF lift so my partner and I won't have to. In return for their muscle, we make sure they know they are appreciated. My partner makes them cookies/brownies/whatever and I make their egos swell.

Yeah... my "patient" this AM spit at a LEO (hitting his shoe) while prone and handcuffed... The PD rather calmly informed the patient that he was going to get ANOTHER aggravated assault charge...

Our LEOs don't take second chances, they can't. As soon as a student starts acting up, especially around TCERT or other students, it doesn't matter if the kid is simply argumentative or becoming aggressive, they are cuffed. Now, the decision to remove the cuffs is up to the transporting ambulance, but they tend not to like the idea of a student who has already proved unruly to be uncuffed.

Very very true. Alcohol intoxication should only be used as an excuse when your girlfriend finds you passed out on the lawn with no pants on and "moron" written backwards on your forehead. :D

I have hundreds of pictures of the roomates I've had over the years. All of them were charter members of the "Pen 15" club.

you think that's bad.. I lived in Japan for 6 years. One time I was out partying (Japan is a great party place, especially if you're a 6'2" white guy like me) and this crazy Swedish friend of mine had a bright idea - "Let's get on the Shinkansen and party!"

We woke up and had managed to travel from Tokyo to Osaka.
