I am planning to apply to the EMT-B Program in the Spring. Our EMT-B takes 1.5 years (3 semesters) and another 1.5 for Paramedic. When you guys started, did you worry about not finding a job at the end? I would like to get my EMT-B done , so at least I can volunteer.

congratulations. no, i had a job going in. what does your EMTB class entail that drags it out to 1 1/2 years? It's not as hard to find a job if you apply everywhere that is within reasonable driving difference. Alot of people apply at their first pick and don't pursue other employment opportunities. Once you get a foot in the door, you will have more options available to you.

Welcome to the site!

I think everybody is nervous about finding a job after school, whatever that school may be (college, high school, EMT class). But if you don't give up, you will get one.

Good luck!

In the future, they will have flying ambulances with robots volunteering to future EMTs.

The EMT-B goes long b/c they require you do a semester of First Responder, and pass a separate entrance exam based on that class, and go through an interview process with the head of the program. You can take First Responder training elsewhere, but they seem to be the only ones in the area that offer it on a regular basis. Not complaining though, just excited. The slower pace will probably suite me just fine with my job. There sure doesn't seem to be a lot of EMT jobs in the paper

No, never worried a bit about finding a job. Now... finding a job you want? That's different.

But I still was never worried about it, as I know I out qualify many of those I'm competing against, and out-interview the rest.

Plus, turn over rates are atrocious.

Do you think my experience as a computer programmer will help\hurt\wont matter?
