And it doesn't really have to be a good home. Any home will do at this point.

Recent runs include 1 overdose, 1 STEMI, 1 massive sub-arachnoid bleed (the doc showed me the scan at the ER), and 1 repiratory failure pt teetering on the edge of respiratory arrest. (Upon arrival at the ER she was immediately RSI'ed and place on a vent.)

And this is just in the last 36 hours or so I have worked, split between two different 24 hour shifts. Over the last several weeks, there have been multiple other bad respiratory patients, some cardiac arrests, and a few MVCs with major trauma.

Must come to Indianapolis area to claim.

I went out yesterday with a paramedic supervisor in an effort to photograph some scenes for my publishers. Didn't get jack poop.

Sounds like I need to come and ride at your organization!

Other day we transported an aortic dissection that extended all the way down past the illiacic crest. Doctor said it looked like a peeled banana. Best part was that the pt. was 30 min. into a three and a half hour dialysis treatment, had to be cut short, and the medic on hand decided it was a BLS transport and didn't need to come along (still in my ALS quals, so I can't do diddly without a preceptor).

So, yeah, that was a fun call.

Immediately after was two back-to-back cardiac arrests, a ruptured bladder (no MVA, just burst while he was watching TV if you can believe it) and a three year old feveral seizure.

I don't know if I'm getting a black cloud, as I am typically pretty neutral and take on whatever cloud my partner of the day has, but it's starting to look pretty dark overhead these days. :P

I would take it but I can't come to Indiana. Would you Fedex it me, or maybe email somehow. I will even take snail-mail. The most exciting thing I did lately was a COPD pt is resp distress.

Hopefully you have several EDs to spread the cheer. If not, that ED is also having a really bad day especially if other EMS crews black clouds along with all the other ED patients.

Did they know it was a dissection at the time? How symptomatic was the patient? What cut short the dialysis?

Granted there might be little that can be done by EMS for the dissection itself but....

Well, I wonder how today is going to fair, it being Friday the 13th????/:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r: Black clouds..... Yikes!

So far my black cloud is in hiding. I've only done three IFTs since 5am (EST) this morning. I have till 9 tonight though so plenty of time to play catch up.

Actually, I ended up taking the stroke and the respiratory failure to the same ER, a few hours apart. The ironic part is that just immediately before the stroke I brought in, another crew brought a patient in with the same presentation. Immediately after I brought my resp failure patient in, another ambulance from our department brought in another resp failure patient that could have been twins with my patient - both satting in the low 80's, still breathing but extremely tired and being assisted with ventilation. I am thinking they are pretty glad I am off for the next two days.

I did find out that they transfered my stroke patient to a different hospital. Outlook for her is still pretty grim though.

Why ever would you want to lose your black cloud?!

I'll take it, unfortunately, since I'm on the next two nights, I can't come pick it up. I will however pay for Express Mail Service

We figured it was a dissection because the woman had one a few years previously, said it felt exactly like that. It was most definitely an ALS call, and though the medic wouldn't be able to do much for her if she crashed it still would have been on his head if she did and he wasn't there.

I am just ready to share the wealth. I am all for putting my new knowledge and skills to the test, but it is really getting a bit ridiculous. I didn't mention the 3 burn patients I had. One from each of the last 3 house fires I have been dispatched to, the worst patient having 2nd-3rd degree burns over 25% of her body. Or the eclamptic patient I post about a few weeks ago. Or the several other high stress runs with very sick people.

Why can't I get a nice, "easy" chest pain run, or a simple fracture that just needs some pain meds? Honestly, there is nothing wrong with doing those types of runs from time to time as well.

On the bright side, however, I am finding out that I really did retain more than I thought I did from class. (A very good thing!) I have been told that your first year as a medic you spend trying to figure out how to be one, and I am certainly getting a crash course! I like the "good" runs just as much as the next person, but I really don't need to get my quota for this year in the first 2-3 months.

Uh oh... I didn't even notice that... I work tonight and my cloud has been unusual light and fluffy lately

I know a few people with their hospital observation time tonight and today... should be a few interesting stories.

(and yes I know I did tonight and today not today and tonight... I don't know why I typed this whole thing out and did not fix it since it would have taken only a fraction of the time.... maybe I am just that "lazy"? or would it be more bull headed? (thick skulled :P )).
