Many have cried out over medicaid abuse, welfare abuse, 911 abuse, illegals getting a free ride while contributing no taxes whatsoever. Someone mentioned a great idea to me. It's called a flat tax. I think the idea has already been shot down in Congress, but I'm not sure.

Do away with income tax. Instead, charge a flat rate on goods and services, say 10% for an arbritrary number. 10% on a gallon of milk. 10% on junior's diapers. 10% on a Corona. 10% on an Escalade with spinners. 10% on a pack of gum.

That's really the only way I can see that will force everyone to contribute to the system. If you're illegal or otherwise trying to game the system, you'll be contributing with each and every purchase. No one gets off scot free. Any thoughts?

Seeing as you're confusing a state goods tax for an income tax.... no.

Flat tax should only be on income, and by the federal government only. States have their own tax bracket for goods.

Here in Texas, the state goods tax is 8.25%, with some cities such as Arlington adding somewhere about 1% more for itself.

If someone makes $10,000 a year, they should pay the same exact percentage as somone that makes $100,000 a year. THAT is what a flat tax is.

Okay, then what should I call it? My reasoning is that everyone will contribute by default, so no one can get by here eithout paying into the system.

Except the federal government can't, by how things are written now, induce a state level sales tax. That's why some states, such as Alaska, don't have a sales tax.

But it has been, and is being, look at by the government to rework things so they can force a state mandated sales tax that is universal. It's called the "Fair Tax Act"

dno what you guys pay in tax (federal/state) but we pay national income tax starting at 21% and increasing with every cent thats right no tax free threshold like in the US or UK .... if you work two jobs, the second job gets taxed at a whopping 40%

while i argue some form of taxation is required to fund government for the good of the country ... errrr politicans .... those who can least afford it get screwed the worst and those who earn most get the BIGGEST tax cuts
