Did 38 hours this weekend on a truck... They had me in charge of every single BLS transfer... which was all 18 calls this weekend. My hands hurt from reports :P

PS-- Standing up in a moving ambulance and not falling over is a skill I have yet to get a handle on.

LOL, Linuss, I still sometimes get knocked over. If you're tall enough (you probably are) used your head as the third point.

That's what the little panic bar up top is for!

I know, I was just busy with the clipboard and penlight :P

Funny thing is, I was speaking to the PT asking how the straps felt and we was like "You don't have anything holding you down?"

I was like "Naw, you get a little used to the move.." (crash into back window)

Got a good laugh out of him atleast.

Vanbulances are short and I'm 6'1"... it'd be more like my back was the 3rd point B)

We should just line the floors and walls with velcro and wear velcro boots and velcro gloves.

18 transfers in 2 days? Wow! I'd kill myself, lol. I'm assuming they were all short distances then, our transfers are all at least 1.5 hours one way.

Linus, good job. I am 6'1", no matter what I do, I still can't stand up in the back all the time. Also when using my head or back of my neck to try to hold myself up, I just end up with a h/a. I don't know if you found that when you sit on the bench sit in the vans for a long time your back starts to ache also. I don't know but I think they need to redesign Ambulances altogether.

Actually, Friday/Sat/Sun. Got out 2 hours late on Fri due to a transfer, but 1/2 hr early on Sunday due to a single call all day.

I live in a place known as the Metroplex, which is Dallas/Ft Worth/Arlington and a TON of other cities. Transfers ranged from 5min to 2 hours, depending.

I say screw the vanbulance, just get boxes for everyone! Hmm.. I should run for office on that one.

I hate the way the wall of the vanbulance kinda curves and your head, if you have a crappy driver and are sitting back on the bench goes bounce bounce bounce against the padding!

I hate the captains char even more... no place to rest the head on padding to take a nap! (sans pt of course...)

That's why you cancer wipe the bench seat, retrieve a pillow and blanket from the hospital and lay down on the bench! But don't forget, you gotta put the pager/radio RIGHT by your ear on your shoulder loopy so if you get paged it'll wake you up.

Only 18 in 2 days? :P Not too shabby. Having fun?

It's different. We didn't have a single ALS transfer for the medic trainee with me or a single priority 2 to break up the monotony. Every other truck got priority 2's but us.

I guess I'm the opposite of a death star... my worst call in all my hours of clinicals and work was a respiratory arrest. Not a single code, not a single major trauma.

Yes, I'm tempting the EMS gods! MWHAHAHHAHAHAHA

Mwhahahahahahaha, Linuss, I didn't get my first code (exempting the DNR that didn't make it home), until I'd been on the road (employed) 4 months. Now I get on average 1 a week.

Respiratory arrest is still pretty bad!

Yeah, I'm not going to downplay the seriousness of it at all. They had me bag her for an hour before hooking up the vent "for practice"

But still, I feel like I need a code to, and I hope this doesn't get me in trouble, get my cherry popped. Everyone else in my class had atleast one... and that's 20 people that passed! I'm just a good luck charm.

Good for my pts, but bad for when I'll need the knowledge.
