Hello everyone I have been contacted to set up an interview with Life Guard Ambulance Service in Birmingham AL. I was hoping someone could give me some insight what to expect with this company or any interview in general.

Well during the interview, expect to be asked a few questions, tell them about yourself, and stay confident.
Don't talk negative about anything either.

Don't know anything about that specific company, but generally most interviews follow the same pattern.

If this is a 911 service the interview process is usually more involved than the IFT services. Expect to answer clinical / scenario questions relevant to your level of certification.

Expect questions like "Why did you choose to get into EMS" ect.

Have prepared answers to open-ended questions like "Tell me about a time when you were in a dangerous situation, and how did you handle it"

"Tell me about a time you unhappy customer / patient and how did you handle it"

"Tell me about a time you went above and beyond at work".

Those are some I've been asked a lot in interviews for reputable companies.
I think its best to have about 10 or so scenarios in your head prepared that you can apply to different questions like the ones mentioned above.

Overall just be yourself and stay calm. If you need to take time and think about your answer just say you need a minute to think and do so.

Thanks I got the job and I am really excited. But now i was wondering if yall could explain how a pay period with 12 hour shifts will workout.

Craw,

I would send a PM but I don't have any posts yet. I was wondering if you could give me some insight on hiring/working for Lifeguard up there in Bham. It's my first on my list right now for relocating. PM me.

Thanks

You work four 12 hour shifts each week same days generally.

Some schedules do three 12s on Week A and four 12s hour shifts week B. So essentially you work tues/thurs/fri/sat/sun/tues/thurs with fri-mon off (you get alternating weekends off) in a two week period. Hopefully that isn't super confusing.

In cali we get paid 8 hours straight pay with 4 hours time and a half in each shift.

Congrats on getting the job. I recently had my first interview as well, waiting to hear back today.

For future interviewees, I want to add one thing I haven't seen in most "how to prepare for interviews" topics: Prepare some good stories from your clinicals/ridealongs that show your medical knowledge and demonstrate the skills you performed. Work these into your interview answers if possible. This will go far in showing your competence.

Congrats on the job, I, too, had my first interview today and I think I have the job.

Very important here. All of my questions were situations I had to explain from clinicals. I was very lucky to have had a big call volume and huge variety of calls to choose from during my clinicals for my interview.
