Hi, I've had my EMT-B certifications for about 6 months but just turned 21 so i can get a job. The problem is I don't feel like I know that much about being an EMT and I'm really nervous about getting my first job. So anyway is it normal to be nervous about this? I catch on to things pretty quickly but how long does it take to get used to this job? Any advice?

Everybody has to start somewhere. Some places will put you through field training so you know what to do and what to expect. My advice, look for a job, brush up on your EMT skills, and generally learn as much as you can. Also consider paramedic school, but try to get some higher education before you do.

Good luck!

The only way those feelings won't pass is if you give up. Just like anything else, there's an adjustment period where the jitters are occasionally part of the territory. In this business, everything seems magnified because the stakes are so high. Hopefully, you learn how to work through stuff as opposed to denying, suppresing or insulating yourself from your human experience.
