City-Firefighter Dispute May End In Hundreds Of Layoffs
NEW ORLEANS -- The ongoing dispute between New Orleans firefighters and the city has come to a head, and the city says it will soon have to start handing out pink slips.
Late Thursday afternoon, firefighters told the City Council in executive session that they will insist on payment of a $13 million installment of a multimillion-dollar judgment against the city.
City administrators say that likely will require hundreds of layoffs.
